IM SO TIRED OF RACIST PEOPLE. SO TIRED. Do you know HOW MANY cultures have non-binary genders?? BINARISM IS RACIST because it was IMPOSED by most EUROPEAN cultures. The Incaic cultures my country had natively were FULL of third-genders which were, of course non binary.
And yet your america/euro-centrist white asses on this site tell me my gender does not exist? Lmao what about the literal thousands of people with native third gender identifications? People like me? Native people from the Americas, Africa, Asia, Oceania??
Bullshit. Anyone who says we invented non-binarism this century is a RACIST.if you’re not native and/or not nb you SHOULD reblog this. let people know we are tired. Even non-native nbs. we are all tired.
Tag: gender is not binary
Not to put the cart ahead of the horse because we’re in survival mode right now, but like I think in terms of a pragmatic policy shift that we should at some point take up is taking gender off of legal documentation.
I’m up for replacing it with assigned sex at birth, that would basically do the same thing for medical reasons, but would it help with those who share a unique gender identity?
No that is the wrong direction. Like that makes my life infinitely more dangerous than the situation now.
There is no good medical reason to have gender on all of our identity documentation; there is potentially even less to put ASAB on there. My body does not (completely) work like a cis man nor a cis woman’s.
My entire point is that like as opposed to like trying to accommodate every gender and having the government control those systems, we need to deconstruct legal gender as a violent system of power and state surveillance.
consider: nonbinary!Rey
Rey, who grew up on a desert world with probably minimal human contact, but surrounded by aliens and robots and the only lesson they ever really learned was survival of the fittest. The desert doesn’t care what’s between your legs – it will try its damnedest to kill you regardless.
Rey, who has very faint memories of their family, but those have been worn smooth by the sand. Old enough to remember, young enough to miss out on societal expectations. When they were younger, they were called ‘boy’, ‘girl’, ‘kid’, ‘human’, and many other, less savory things.
Rey, who learned to respond to any and all pronouns as a survival skill. When a drunk scavenger comes looking for a friend to share the prosperity of their new find with, you don’t care what you’re called as long as you get some of those rations.
Rey, who is considered just another weird one by most of the small population and is generally just referred to as ‘Rey’ because who even knows or cares anymore.
Rey, who loves the droids they occasionally find that sometimes have a bit of power left, who teach Rey how to understand binary and tell magnificent stories of the world outside of the sand dunes. Droids have no concept of gender, not really, and a kinship is formed between any and all that they find.
Rey, who doesn’t mention any of this to Poe or Finn or anyone else because it’s not really relevant in their mind; if the others want to refer to them as ‘she’ then that’s fine. Until one day they respond to different pronouns without missing a beat and Leia (who has been around for a while and has seen more than enough of the galaxy and its inhabitants) notices, and decides to talk with them.
Rey, who is confused by the question “what do you want to be called?” because they’re just… Rey. And Leia specifies “do you want feminine, masculine, or neither pronouns?” and Rey is still kind of confused but not as much. Explains that “they/them” fits the most comfortably, and Leia nods and puts a note in Rey’s file that reads “Gender: Nonbinary, They/Them”
i just really want more nb characters in everything but especially star wars okayYES PLEASE

For all the boys and transboys who were told you don’t deserve positivity. Correction: YOU DO
Hari Nef is helping to normalize transwomen’s bodies and identities in a really important way that if you’re cisgender you may not have thought about
Nef goes on to explain the difference between her photoshoot with Velencoso, versus how transgender women are typically photographed in fashion editorials. “images of trans femmes being loved rarely exist outside of pornography,” Nef wore. “We tend to be hyper-sexualized and objectified within the cisgender gaze. Either that or we’re dehumanized as scum or (just as bad) untouchable goddesses.”

Harrison Browne is the first openly transgender man to compete on a North America pro team, and now the NWHL has vowed to protect him
Without any precedent, it was unclear whether a man should be allowed to play on a women’s sports team. So, the NWHL created a policy specifically to address this question. It states that “people designated female at birth, regardless of their gender identity” are allowed on the women’s team and says the league “supports athletes choosing to express their gender beyond the binary of female and male.” Woohoo!
