Morning, 22 Oct 17

Bleah. Have an appointment to take my laptop in to the local authorized repair shop tomorrow and see if they can fix the laptop’s screen issues and for how much. Here’s hoping it’s not too expensive. (And that they can do in-shop repairs same-day, and dad can thus ransom the laptop on his way home from work.)

And whether or not that happens, I’m looking at getting a new computer. Which, considering that I do not have the spoons to learn a new operating system, is going to be a Mac, means I’m looking at a pretty chunk of change I don’t actually have. And I’m not getting another laptop, I’m getting a desktop, because for the most part, I don’t need the portability, and when I do, I have my phone for internet, and actual physical notebooks for writing long-hand. And if with mom, the iPad.

Still, I’m looking at $1200 for the computer + trackpad + keyboard, especially since I want solid-state hard drive, not spinning. My brother has extra monitors, so not adding another chunk of change on that. (And even if I did, I’d still be paying less than I would for a comparable laptop, the fuck.)

I’m going to look at Patreon, and see what I can do with that, because if I can get that running enough to pay down a balance on a credit card, I don’t have to worry about having the money up-front. Or crowd-funding options to get enough in my bank account to afford to pay the whole thing up-front. Something.

*sighs, and thumps head against the wall a moment*

It’s a five-year-old laptop. It’s not surprising I’m having issues (although the screen issue has been an intermittant thing for the last three years, really). It’s just really annoying, and replacing this is going to be a pain in the ass.

*makes rude gestures at their neighbors and their over-loud music, and repeats “don’t wanna get up, don’t wanna be a responsible adult” while getting up and being a responsible adult*

Fuck today, I don’t want to, but we leave in an hour and just. Nope. I’ll survive, but I won’t like it and I reserve the right to bitch mightily about it on social media.

Hormones are evil, I’m currently dealing with a damnit-that’s-not-actually-me feeling of hating everything, and I think I’m going to go get a damp paper towel and take the dust off the leading edges of my ceiling fan’s blades. They look awful.

Then I’m going back to adding another set of useful notes to my spreadsheet of doom and cursing having added header information to things before I thought about this, and having in the process obliterated the information of when I last worked on some stories. (On the other hand, I’m actually fairly certain the answer to most of them is “before I got the current laptop”, which means they get marked as abandoned anyway. Because I am never going to get back to them, or because if I strip them for ideas, it’s not going to resemble the story it was before.)

(When this spreadsheet is complete, there will be happy screaming. The problem is that’s months down the road.)

Anyway. I’m going to go be a vaguely responsible adult now, and get food and clean my ceiling fan. (Cleaning to procrastinate on other things, woo-hoo!)

Pool was awesome. And then there was jackass with too much bass in their too loud music and my heart decided that today was an excellent day to bring back the “try to sync with the loud bass I can feel” trick. Which is very bad when the rhythm in question is in no way suited to a heart beat.

And means that there was an entertaining few minutes of very measured breathing and hoping that there wasn’t a need to change where we were going to head for the hospital instead of home. Thankfully, once the external influence had pulled away and out of range, I could get things back to normal.

It does mean that now I’m exhausted, and have spent the already low number of mental health spoons on not falling over before I got back upstairs once we were home, and don’t have physical health spoons to spare. So. Gonna grab a snippet for this afternoon, and then go be off tumblr for a while.

There is actually a free program everyone can download called DesignDoll which has unlimited posable models if you need more then just two or just simply don’t have the money to buy these figurines. The program is easy to work with and I’d recommend it to everybody!

DesignDoll download

Yes, yes, it looks lovely. I’ll get it when they actually make it cross-platform compatible, instead of Windows only. So, you know, I can actually use it. Until then? The posable figures the OP is posting about would be more useful.

Sculptris – The free version of Z-Brush – is mac compatible.

It might not be the kind of 3-D software you’re looking for, but it is 3-D and free.

I may look at that – I think I may have seen it before, and gone “nope, no tablet, not this” because I may have read “recommended” as “required” because it’s on a requirements page. *shrugs*

(Although looking at that, I’m hoping it’s compatible with a OS well past 10.6. I’ll see.)
