I feel like our economy has been driven by mass production for so long that we’ve forgotten just how intensely time-consuming making things by hand is. Mass production was revolutionary for a reason. It DRASTICALLY reduced the cost of things. And I’m all for making things more affordable! But the problem arises when people decide they want something handmade for the cost of something mass produced. People get an idea in their mind “this is how much x item should cost” when in actuality that’s how much a machine made version of that thing costs. Then they hear the price of something made entirely by hand and think “that person is ripping me off.” If you want something handmade, you have to compensate the person making it fairly.

The mate is still on a massive job hunt, helped by 1 headhunter who feels so GUILTY that he signed the mate for a job and then the company owner fucked off and hired someone else without notifying the company, and by another who is so utterly done with one manager’s shit that he is taking the mate’s CV and is going to wear this stubborn asshole down until he agrees to just HIRE SOMEONE already. Whether or not that gets results…well, prayers and finger-crossing and candle lighting and miraculous events would not be amiss, here.

But: even if he is hired (again) this week…yeah, we don’t have money to pay bills. We’ve had to do this thing called eating–which fortunately we can do for cheaper down here because I CAN EAT NORMAL FOODS–but it still requires money. (Unless there is sunflower involved. Fuck sunflowers and their itchiness, even though they are so very very tasty.)
I am working, finally, on three remaining jewelry commissions from the last massive Fundraisening now that my supplies are out and available, and I’ve begun another piece to sell, and am making moar when I can…but between writing now that my brain is comfortable in its new little space and STILL UNPACKING (for serious) and enjoying the fact that I can go outside and not be ill…well, basically, writing is most of what I have.
But I have twelve chapters of writing that’s done and ready for posting.

1 Godric chapter (with another one in progress because I AM GOING TO FINISH THAT STORY), the last 3 chapters of Part VI of OaLC, and all 8 chapters of Part VII. I’ll also be working on editing Salazar and Helga’s stories, since those were written before Godric’s–and as part of Helga’s happens in Godric’s stuff, hers shouldn’t be anywhere near as complicated.
Maybe. I mean, she’s a Viking. She could just be waiting to fuck with me at first opportunity.
For now, I’m running the same deal as the Fundraisening section I ran at the beginning of August:
For every $500 donated, I’ll post a new chapter right away. When I attain the amount needed to pay all of the bills due at the end of the month (rent, electric, car, & water among them) I’ll post two chapters and also a post full of relief and thank-yous and photos of the fact that I have a MUG full of gift notes from people who have kept us afloat so that I can keep writing and the kids can keep eating. However, I’ll still be running that Fundraisening because there are more bills due on the 10th.
You know what I don’t get? When fanfic authors apologize for long chapters. It’s like? You gave me bonus content, for free, and you’re sorry about it? Bruh. I have already named my firstborn after you. Dude.
You know what else I don’t get? When they apologize for short updates. It’s like: look at these new words I gave you! Sorry I didn’t give you even more free words. Bro, that’s at least two words that I did not have yesterday. For free. Dude. Thank you.
And another thing: when people drop out of nowhere with a surprise update and then apologize for it taking a while. Like, dude, I wasn’t expecting anything, and you gave me words. I thought this fic was abandoned, but wait: there’s more. You just popped in and reminded me that this is a Good Fic that I should probably reread. You made my goshdarn day.
Basically fanfic writers are under no obligation to publish anything so when they do update it’s always a net positive because the story is longer now, and I have something to read, so thank you so much to everyone who writes fic at whatever pace or quantity they want.
